We can’t speak to how other musicians take on this process but here’s how we do it at Champagne Duo. We’re often asked to write personalised love songs for wedding couples, and each time is an absolute privilege and delight.
We start by sitting down and listening to your love story. How you met, what you love about each other, your couple quirks, favourite memories, and things you enjoy doing.
Then, we ask about what songs and artists you both like to get a feel for your style of music you want. This is essential so we can craft the right melody. We’ll also hear about your wedding — the venue, style, aesthetics, and more, so we can pair the “vibe” of the day with the song.
We’ll go away and start creating. Once we’ve done through a draft (or ten), we’ll present an initial concept for you to listen to. You can provide feedback, and we’ll make any changes accordingly. This process can happen multiple times until you’re totally in love with your personalised love song. This is so so important — we don’t want you to walk down the aisle to it unless it’s perfect!
Finally, we’d love the honour of performing your special song for you on the day, live. However, if you’d like to take a recording or pass it onto to someone you know to do this instead, you’re more than welcome to.
